Engine Oil Cooler - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.



NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Drain the coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

  2. Remove bolts (1), elbow (3), and tube assembly (2).

  3. Remove strap (10) and move harness assembly (7) out of the way.

  4. Remove bolts (4), bolts (6), bolts (8), clamps (9), and tube assembly (5).

  5. Disconnect hose assembly (11), tube assembly (12), and tube assembly (13).

  6. Remove bolts (14) and fuel transfer pump (15).

  7. Remove bolts (18), bolt (17), and elbow (16).

  8. Use a suitable lifting device to remove engine oil cooler (20). The weight of engine oil cooler (20) is approximately 208 kg (459 lb).

  9. Remove bolts (19), bolts (21), and engine oil cooler (20).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install engine oil cooler (20) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Lubricate the bore of tube assembly (5) with the fluid that is being sealed.

    2. Install clamps (9) to tube assembly (5). Hand tighten bolts (6) and bolts (8). Tighten bolts (6) to a torque of 47 ± 9 N·m (35 ± 7 lb ft). Tighten bolts (8) to a torque of 47 ± 9 N·m (35 ± 7 lb ft).

    3. Lubricate the bore of tube assembly (2) with the fluid that is being sealed.
