A new Operation and Maintenance Manual (OMM), Supplemental Information Special Instruction, "Parking Brake Operational Check And Service Instructions on Wheel Skidders", needs to be installed on certain 525D, 535D, 545D, and 555D Wheel Skidders. The existing manual provided with the machine does not include the correct parking brake service information. A new 5621901/">562-1901 Grease Film, which illustrates the recommended parking brake grease interval, needs to be installed on the machine also.

A new Special Instruction and grease film need to be ordered and then sent to the customer to be installed on the machine.

Instructions:

1. Order the new M0095507, Special Instruction, which contains the Operation and Maintenance Manual supplemental information, from the Caterpillar Media Ordering System in your required language. Refer to the Media Number list below for the languages available. Order the 5621901/">562-1901 Grease Film from the Caterpillar Parts Distribution System. Your parts department should be able to order the Special Instruction and grease film for you.

2. Mail the new M0095507, Special Instruction and 5621901/">562-1901 Grease Film to the customer, with tracking information, with instructions to place the new Special Instruction in the machine and to install the new grease film according to the procedure in the Special Instruction. Please make every effort to deal with this issue by registered mail.

3. Claim as per the Service Claim Allowances section of this Service Letter.

4. When entering the PIP completion in SIMSi, type the tracking information in the comment field. Record both activities, installation of the Special Instruction and the grease film.

MODELS INVOLVED - CERTAIN D-SERIES WHEEL SKIDDERS

Dear Cat Product Owner:

The Operation and Maintenance Manual provided with the machine needs to be supplemented on the products listed below. The existing Operation and Maintenance Manual does not contain all of the service information that applies to the machine's parking brake. The recommended service interval for greasing of the parking brake debris barrier compartments is now every 1000 hours. Not following the Caterpillar service recommendation for greasing the parking brake debris barrier compartments can result in reduced service life and improper functioning of the parking brake. Please install the Operation and Maintenance Manual Supplemental Information Special Instuction to be provided by your local Caterpillar Dealer in the literature pouch behind the seat of the machine. A new parking brake service interval grease film should also be installed on the machine. Follow the installation procedure for the new grease film, which can be found in the Special Instruction. In addition to the Special Instruction, the grease film will also be provided by your local Caterpillar Dealer. You will not be charged for the service performed.

If you are no longer the owner of this product(s), please contact your local Cat dealer so that our records can be updated.
