Problem:
Several improvements to the design of lift and tilt cylinder seals have created confusion in the field about which seals are to be used.
Service Magazine SEPD0550, 13 November 2000, "New Cylinder Seals Provide Longer Service Life and Improved Sealing Capabilities" described the new seal designs and identified part numbers. However, further service life improvements were needed.
Solution:
A new proprietary urethane seal material has been developed for the buffer, the u-cup, and the wiper seals for the lift and tilt cylinders. The new seals, identifiable by their yellow color, will provide longer service life than the previous seals.
NOTE: Water and/or coolant in hydraulic oil will greatly reduce the life of the cylinder rod seals. Water, and especially glycol coolant, attacks the polyurethane seal material and causes the seals to become brittle and cracked. As little as 1% water or coolant in the oil has a significant negative effect on the seals.
See Tables 1 through 4 for part numbers and effectivity.
