Problem:
Some 8C5576 Coils used on the 3E6269 Solenoid Valve Group (Transmission Clutch) may have been assembled incorrectly. The 8C5576 Coils in question may have had a connector socket improperly inserted into the connector. If this socket is not inserted properly, the 8C5576 coil may not function due to an open circuit.
The incorrect coil assemblies were made between 06/06/2000 and 12/16/2000. There is a five-digit date code on the bottom of the coil (see Illustration 1). The suspect coils will have a date code between CK157 and CK350. The "K" in the date code signifies the year 2000. The three numerical characters signify the day of the year that the coil was manufactured (Julian date).

Solution:
Illustration 2 shows a socket correctly installed into a connector. For instructions on inserting a socket into the connector, refer to Special Instruction SMHS7531 "Use of 6V3000 Sure Seal Repair Kit". All parts in question have been identified and reworked in the Caterpillar Service Parts System.
