SUBJECT: AXLE HOUSING TO FINAL DRIVE SPINDLE BOLTED JOINT

PROBLEM:

129-3175 bolts have been found with nonconforming thread formation on the bolts. The nonconforming bolts may cause the bolts to break due to fatigue. The defective bolts were intermixed with good bolts in the machines that are listed above. The 129-3175 bolts are part of the 8X-0132 Axle Group?Fixed and the 8X-0134 Axle Group-Oscillating.

SOLUTION:

Inspect the bolts at both the front and rear axle housings. Replace any bolts that have failed. Tighten the new bolts to 1400 ± 175 N· m (1020 ± 120 lb ft). Turn each bolt an additional 120 ± 10 degrees after reaching the desired torque.
