PROBLEM
The single function boom needs to be reworked on certain 525D Wheel Skidders, equipped with 367-1846 Boom and Arch Arrangement. The existing boom can crack causing non-repairable failures to the boom. |

Note: Ensure that all safety information, warnings, and instructions are read and understood before any operation or any maintenance procedures are performed. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual "Safety Section". Refer to the Service Manual if/as necessary. 1. Inspect the boom for cracks and warped plates. If any cracks have propagated into parent plates or warped the sides plates, submit a DSN-Product Health service request for additional rework information. Refer to Image1.1.1. Note: Inspect the plates to ensure they are straight in areas where the arrows are pointing. |

2. Inspect the fairlead assembly mount area of the boom for deformation. - If the plate identified in Image1.2.1 is not deformed or can be readily straightened, weld in 517-4635 Plates according to Image1.2.2. - If the plate is damage beyond the ability to straighten, refer to M0075776, Special Instruction, "Rotator Opening Rework Procedure for the Single Function 425-5206 Boom Assembly on D-Series Wheel Skidders", for the rework instructions. NOTE: This instruction is shown for dual function arch but the repair procedure applies to the single function boom. |

3. Prepare the boom for rework at the rotator end by removing the boom from the machine. 4. Remove 675mm of material from the 385-5025 Top Plate. Refer to Image1.3.1. |

5. Create a new baffle plate using the dimensions in Image1.4.1. Then add round stock to the baffle plate according to Images1.4.2 and 1.4.3. |

6. Locate the baffle plate assembly in the boom according to the dimensions in Image1.5.1. 7. Weld the baffle plate according to the weld information in Image1.5.2. 8. Weld the new 499-8524 Top Plate to the side plates with a 8mm filet weld / 1.5mm min penetration and to the end plate with a 6mm filet weld / 1.5mm min penetration. 9. Weld the new top plate to the existing top plate and baffle plate assembly by first applying 10mm groove weld then cover with 6mm bevel welds to fill the entire bevel. Refer to Image1.5.1. |
