Tracks

Usage:

Separation Of Tracks

1. Remove cover (1) from the track roller frame.

------ WARNING! ------

The adjuster cylinder for the track is under high hydraulic pressure. Grease under high pressure can cause injury. Do not visually inspect the adjuster to see if grease is released when the valve is opened. Check the rod to see that it moves to the rear into the front support on the track roller frame.

--------WARNING!------

2. Loosen the track as follows:

a. Turn valve (2) one turn counterclockwise to permit grease to be released from the vent hole below the valve. If the track does not loosen, start the machine, and move it forward and backward. If the track still does not loosen, go to Step b.

b. Install a slug (3) that is 76.2 mm (3 in.) in diameter and 63.5 mm (2.5 in.) long between the track and sprocket segment. Make sure the slug makes contact with a track bushing. Move the machine to the rear so the track will be pushed up by the slug. This will put tension on the track, and move the front idler and track adjuster to the rear against the force of the recoil spring. If the track still does not loosen, go to Step c.

c. Move the machine forward so slug (3) does not put tension on the track. Loosen bolts (4) a maximum of 6.4 mm (.25 in.). Loosen valve (2) to push the valve seat out the bottom of the track adjuster to release the pressure in the track adjuster. Move the machine to the rear so the track will be pushed up by the slug. This will push the grease in the track adjuster out the bottom of the seat and loosen the track. After the track is loosened, move the machine forward, and remove slug (3) from the track. Tighten bolts (4) and the valve in the track adjuster. Tighten the valve to a torque of 70 ± 15 N·m (50 ± 11 lb.ft.).

NOTE: If a complete replacement of the track is made, it is not necessary to lift the machine and install tooling (A). Make a separation of the track, and put the new track flat directly in front of the old track. Start the machine, and move the machine forward off the old track and directly on to the new track. If a repair of the old track is necessary, install tooling (A).

3. Lift the machine, and install tooling (A) under the front and rear of the machine.

4. Start the machine, and move the track backward or forward until the master shoe is just below a horizontal line through the center of the sprocket. Put tool (B) in position under the track shoe that is below the master shoe as shown. Move the track backward until it is rigid on tool (B).

5. Remove bolts (5) and master shoe (6). Make a separation of the master links.

NOTE: The bolt holes in the master shoe are in a different position than the bolt holes in the other shoes.

6. Hold the lower part of the track up with a hoist or lift truck. Remove tool (B), and lower the track to the floor.

------ WARNING! ------

The track can move off the track roller frame very quickly when a separation of the track is made. Keep away from the front of the machine when the track is removed from the track roller frame.

--------WARNING!------

7. Move the track forward slowly until the track is off the track roller frame.

NOTE: If necessary, use a lift truck to remove the track completely from the track roller frame.

Connection Of Tracks

1. Remove two bolts from the first track shoe (1) at both ends of the track so tooling (D) can be installed in both ends of the track.

2. Put tooling (D) in the track link and on the sprocket as shown.

3. Start the machine. Move the sprocket forward until the track is pulled up on the sprocket and the end of the track is forward of a vertical line through the center of the sprocket.

4. Install tool (C) between the first track shoe and bushing as shown. Move the sprocket forward slowly, and use tool (C) as a guide to put the track in position over the carrier roller and the front idler.

5. Install tooling (D) in both ends of the track as shown, and connect the hook and chain together.

NOTICE

Make sure the ends of the master links are in a position to prevent damage to them when the track is pulled under the track roller frame.

6. Start the machine. Move the sprocket forward until the master link is just below a horizontal line through the center of the sprocket.

7. Put tool (B) under the first track shoe at the lower end of the track as shown. Move the sprocket backward until the two links can be put together. Remove tooling (D).

8. Put 2P2506 or 5P3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the threads, body and washer face of bolts (2) for the master link. Put the master shoe in position on the master links, and install bolts (2). Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 170 ± 40 N·m (120 ± 30 lb.ft.); then tighten 180° ± 5° more. Remove tooling (B) and (A).

9. Put clean 30 wt. oil on the threads, body and washer face of the track bolts. Install the track bolts in track shoes (3), and assemble the nuts with the end that has the 3.96 mm (.156 in.) corner radii against the link. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 170 ± 40 N·m (120 ± 30 lb.ft.) then 120° ± 5° more.
