Usage:
START BY:
a. remove front idler and yokes
1. Remove guards (1) from the yoke.
2. Remove bolts (2) from the links.
3. Use tooling (A) to remove pins (3) that hold yoke (4) to the links. If difficulty is experienced in removing the pin, install tooling (D), and remove pins (3). Remove the yoke and the rod as a unit.
4. Remove bolt (6) from the yoke. Remove pin (5) that holds rod (7) to the yoke, and remove the rod from the yoke.
5. Remove seals (8) from the yoke and rod. Use tooling (B) and a press to remove the bushings from the yoke and rod.
6. Remove the bolts, caps (9) and guards (10) from both sides of the front idler. Remove the spring washers from guards (10).
7. Remove seals (11) from the guards.
8. Use tooling (B) and a press to remove bearing (12) from the guards.
9. Remove the bolt and washer from lock (14). Install a 7/16"-14 NC bolt (13) three inches long in lock (14). Hit the bolt with a hammer to loosen the lock. Remove bolt (13) and lock (14).
10. Use tooling (C) as shown to remove link (16) from the idler shaft. It is necessary to use step plate (15) only on the side that has the plug in the shaft.
11. Remove the Duo-Cone seal (17) from the link.
NOTE: Shaft (18) can be cut from the link and a replacement made if necessary. Shaft (18) must extend past the step on the link 60 ± 0.2 mm (2.36 ± .008 in.) if a replacement is made. The width of the weld is 5 mm (.20 in.).
12. Remove the Duo-Cone seal (19) from the bushing in the idler. Put identification on the Duo-Cone seals (17) and (19) so they will be installed as a set. Duo-Cone seals cannot be mixed after they are used.
13. Remove O-ring seal (20) from the idler shaft.
14. Remove bolts (21) from the bushing.
15. Turn the front idler over, and do Steps 9 through 14 again.
16. Put the front idler in a press as shown. Weight of 943 idler is 72 kg (160 lb.). Weight of 953 idler is 108 kg (240 lb.). Use the press and idler shaft (22) to push bottom bushing (23) out of the front idler. Turn the front idler over, and use the press and idler shaft (22) again to push the other bushing (23) out of the front idler. Do not let the bushing and idler shaft fall when they are clear of the idler.
17. Remove bushing (24) from bushing (23) with a press.
18. Cut pins (25) off even with the face of the bushings. Make the surface of the bushings smooth with a file.
