Fender - Remove and Install

  1. Park the machine on a hard, level surface. Engage the parking brake and chock the wheels. Turn the disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  2. If necessary, raise the suspension and place wood blocks between the frame and the axle.

  3. Remove two bolts (1), the washers, and the nuts that secure guard rail (2) to plate (3).

  4. Remove bolt (4) and the nut that secures guard rail (2) to fender (5). Remove the guard rail.

  5. Install Tooling (A), appropriate nylon lifting straps, and a hoist to fender (5).

    The bolts in this photo are located above the tire inside the wheel well.

  6. Remove three bolts (6) at the front of fender (5).

  7. Remove bolt (7), the washers, and the nut at the rear of fender (5).

  8. Remove two bolts (8), the washers, and the nuts that secure fender (5) to the machine. Remove the fender. The weight of the fender is 66 kg (145 lb).

Installation Procedure

  1. Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

  2. Install Tooling (A), appropriate lifting straps, and a hoist. Place fender (5) into position. The weight of the fender is 66 kg (145 lb).

  3. Install two bolts (8), the washers, and the nuts that secure fender (5) to the machine.

  4. Install bolt (7), the washers, and the nut at the rear of the fender.

  5. Install three bolts (6) at the front of fender (5).

  6. Place guard rail (2) into position. Install bolt (4) and the nut that secures guard rail (2) to fender (5).

  7. Install two bolts (1), the washers, and the nuts that secure guard rail (2) to plate (3).

  8. If necessary, remove the wood blocks between the frame and the axle. Adjust the suspension. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7064, "Suspension - Lower" for the proper procedure.
