Oscillating Hitch - Remove

Start By:

  1. Separate the front and the rear frames. See Disassembly and Assembly, "Front and Rear Frame - Seperate and Connect".

  2. Remove the parking brake. See Disassembly and Assembly, "Parking Brake - Remove and Install".

  1. Use Tooling (A) in order to keep oscillating hitch (1) in an upright position.

  2. Use a ratchet wrench and locking plate assembly (2) in order to remove thrust flange (4) from drive shaft yoke assembly (3).

  3. Remove nine nuts (6) and the washers that secure drive shaft yoke assembly (3) to housing (5).

  4. Attach Tooling (A) to the exhaust port of the truck body. Attach Tooling (A) and Tooling (B) to yoke assembly (3), as shown. Install two 5/8" - 18 forcing screws (7) in drive shaft yoke assembly (3).

  5. Use the forcing screws in order to separate drive shaft yoke assembly (3) from housing (5). Move drive shaft yoke assembly (3) partially out of housing (5). Lower drive shaft yoke assembly (3) to machine frame (8). Remove Tooling (A) and Tooling (B) from drive shaft yoke assembly (3).

  6. Attach Tooling (B) and Tooling (A) to drive shaft yoke assembly (3), as shown. Use two persons in order to remove drive shaft yoke assembly (3), and the shaft (not shown) from housing (5). Lower drive shaft yoke assembly (3) to the floor. The weight of drive shaft yoke assembly (3), and the shaft is 59 kg (130 lb).

  7. Attach the suitable lifting straps and a hoist to oscillating hitch (1).

  8. Use Tooling (A), the hoist and a block in order to level oscillating hitch (1) on the hoist. Slowly remove oscillating hitch (1) from rear frame (9). Oscillating hitch (1) has a weight of 360 kg (795 lb).

  9. Remove seal (10) from rear frame (9). Remove two bushings (11) from rear frame (9).

  10. Remove two bolts (12) and the dowels from wear plate (13). Remove wear plate (13) from oscillating hitch (1).
