Service Brake - Disassemble

Disassembly Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the spindle. See Disassembly and Assembly, SENR9139, "Spindle - Remove" for further information.

  1. Use a suitable hoist, chains, and lifting eyes in order to place the brake assembly on a suitable work bench. The weight of the brake assembly is 213 kg (470 lb). Remove the 17 bolts and washers that secure plate (1) to housing assembly (2).

  2. Remove the O-ring from plate (1). Remove Duo Cone Seal (2).

  3. Remove the disc and plates (4). Take note of the order of the disc and the plates.

    Note: Remove the plates for the damper assembly with the other plates.

  4. Attach suitable lifting devices and rotate the brake assembly to the opposite side. The weight of the brake assembly is 150 kg (330 lb). The brake anchor should now be in an upward position. Remove 4 large plugs (5) from the anchor. Remove 2 small plugs (6) from the anchor. Remove 42 bolts (7) and washers that secure the anchor to the housing.

  5. Secure suitable lifting eyes, chains, and a hoist to anchor (8). The weight of the anchor is 87 kg (191 lb). Raise the anchor from housing (9). Remove O-ring (10).

  6. Guide Pins (11) are located in four locations on the brake piston. Install Tooling (A) and Tooling (B) into the large plug holes on the anchor (8) in order to remove pin (12) from guide pin (11). Tighten Tooling (B) until pin (12) can be removed from guide pin (11).

  7. Remove piston (14) from anchor (8). Remove O-rings and Teflon seals (15) from piston (14).
