Requirements For 111-2427 Clip When Performing PS40125 Caterpillar

Requirements For 111-2427 Clip When Performing PS40125

Usage:

TRACK-TYPE TRACTORSD5M (6GN, 3CR, 7LR, 5ES, 6AS),
D6M (3WN, 4JN, 6LR, 5NR, 4HS) TRACK-TYPE TRACTORS

Problem:

The product support program, PS40125, included the 111-2427 clip as a part required for the rework program. Only certain machines require a new clip. Replacing clips on all the machines included in the program is resulting in a shortage of clips and our inability to meet dealer demand.

The original design of the 111-2427 clip caused extremely tight leads to the intermediate speed sensors. In late 1996, the design of the clip was changed to reduce this tension in the wiring harness.

Solution:

Effective serial numbers for implementation of the improved 111-274 clip were not recorded. By adding 10 months from the redesign of the clip to the estimated introduction of the new clip in vehicle production establishes the following approximate serial number effectivity:

D5M 6GN00647, 3CR00378, 7LR00236, 5ES00264, 6AS00148
D6M 3WN00780, 4JN00496, 6LR00430, 5NR00272, 4HS00432.

Before replacing the speed sensors and clip according to PS40125, inspect the wiring harness. If the leads to the intermediate speed sensors are not tight, the clip does not need to be replaced. Vehicles above these serial numbers should not require a new clip. Machines below these serial numbers may or may not require a new clip, as the improved clip may have been introduced earlier in production on some machines than estimated.

The Service Letter for PS40125 will be corrected to reflect these requirements for the clip.
