Problem:

There have been recent reports of the transmission neutralizing when shifting from forward to reverse (or reverse to forward). Logged Service Codes for the Transmission Directional Switch (CID 623) have also been noted, indicating that the switch input to the transmission ECM was invalid. This problem occurs when the switch is held between detent positions for a period greater than three seconds.

Solution:

When the transmission ECM detects an invalid input from the directional switch, the transmission will neutralize. The switch must then be moved to a valid neutral position. Once the ECM detects a valid neutral signal, the operator may then select the desired forward or reverse direction. The appropriate forward or reverse transmission solenoid will be energized by the transmission ECM.

Engineering is aware of the problem and a switch design change is being considered. News of the change will be announced in a future Service Magazine article.
