Usage:
D6M (2RN614-UP, 9ZM688-UP, 4JN1966, 4JN1969-1970, 4JN1972-UP, 3WN2164, 3WN2168-UP, 2YS462-UP) TRACK-TYPE TRACTORS
Problem:
The 6V1649 Ball Bearing, used to support the double deck carrier, in certain medium track type tractors may fail due to fatigue of the dirt shield. Some of the ball bearings used in production in transmissions had thin wall dirt shields. Under varying lubrication pressure, these thin walled shields would deflect. In some instances, the shields would show wear, when they contacted the rolling elements in the bearing. In other instances the shield may fatigue. Elements of the shield could then damage the balls in the bearing leading to eventual bearing failure.
Solution:
There has been no part number change. The 6V1649 ball bearing available through parts distribution has always been procured from a supplier that consistently has maintained good control on the wall thickness of the dirt shield. Use of the bearing with potentially thin walled dirt shields in production has been discontinued with the serial numbers listed above.
