Camshaft - Remove

Usage:

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the valve lifters. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Valve Lifter - Remove" for the engine that is being serviced.

  2. Remove the timing gear cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Timing Gear Cover - Remove and Install" for the engine that is being serviced.

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

  1. Bend two locking tabs (1) and remove two bolts (2).

  2. Turn the crankshaft until the "C" mark on the crankshaft gear is in alignment with the "C" mark on camshaft gear (3).

    Note: Place a mark on the teeth of the idler gear, camshaft gear (3), and magneto drive at locations (A) in order to keep the engine timing correct during removal and installation of the camshaft.

  3. Carefully remove gear (3) and the camshaft.

    Note: Do not cause damage to the lobes or bearings when you remove the camshaft.

  4. Remove the bolts that hold camshaft gear (3) to the camshaft.
