Service Replacement Of Electronic Monitoring System (EMS) Module May Also Require Installation Of New Engine Software

Usage:

WHEEL LOADERS834B (7BR1-671) WHEEL TRACTOR;
836 (7FR1-406) LANDFILL COMPACTOR

Reference: Caterpillar Service Tool Software/User's Manual NEHS0685.

Problem:

Service replacement of certain EMS modules on the following machines also requires installation of new engine software to ensure proper operation of the EMS module.

Solution:

Refer to the following chart for the correct service replacement part numbers. The EMS module's part number is identified on the back of the module.

Identify the part number of the engine software that is currently installed in the ECM module by using Electronic Technician. Refer to the following chart for identification of the correct service replacement engine software group (flash software) and the service replacement engine control group (personality module). Either flash the software into the ECM or replace the control group.

Replace the following software group part numbers with 151-7082 or the following control group part numbers with 151-7084 on 834B (7BR).

Replace the following software group part numbers with 164-3795 or the following control group part numbers with 164-3796 on 843B (7BR) machines used in Spain.

Replace the following software group part numbers with 175-6455 or the following control group part numbers with 175-6456 on 836 (7FR) machines.
