Improperly Torqued Driveshaft Yoke Hardware

Problem:
Some compactors have improperly torqued hardware on the driveshaft yokes. This hardware may become loose enough to allow the driveshafts to disconnect.
Solution:
The following procedure is designed to prevent driveshaft yokes from loosening and becoming disconnected.
- 1. Block the wheels to ensure that the machine will not move during this procedure.
- 2. Remove the bolts and straps at the top end of the driveshaft securing the U-joint to the yoke on the brake assembly output shaft.
- 3. Move the driveshaft down and out of the way to gain access to the yoke mounting bolt.
- 4. Remove the bolt and washer securing the yoke to the brake assembly output shaft.
- 5. Replace the existing washer 4Y-3046 with a new one. Make sure bolt threads are clean and free of oil. Apply 9S-3263 or 4C-4030 Thread Lock and torque the bolt to 102 N·m (75 lb ft).
- 6. Repeat steps 1-5 for the other driveshaft.
