Problem:
In some cases the 5J-3658 Rod (for the brake pedal) and the 145-9077 Rod (for the inching pedal) are rubbing or binding against the steering metering valve hoses under the platform when the steering console is in certain positions. This may cause the rods to not retract properly, resulting in partial brake actuation and premature brake wear or modulation problems of the inching pedal.
Solution:
Position the steering console fully forward. Slowly engage the pedals, then slowly release them. Check to see if they fully retract. Position the steering console completely back, and check again. If sticking or binding occurs in either position, remove the steering console side plates. Loosen the nuts on the steering hose clamps and adjust the hoses away from the linkages. Tighten in position. Recheck pedals with console in both positions. See illustrations.
