Problem:

The 6Y-8285 Seals in the 144-1140 Gasket Kit may be improperly packaged. The 6Y-8285 are made from a material which is sensitive to moisture from air. The seals swell due to the moisture. Swollen seals will not seal properly.

Solution:

The 6Y-8285 should be packaged in aluminum foil packages to prevent moisture entry. The packaging problem has been corrected. Inspect the 6Y-8285 Seals for proper packaging in the 144-1140 Gasket kits. If the 6Y-8285 Seals are not properly packaged, do not use. Any seals found in plastic bags should not be used when rebuilding a transmission. Order new seals. Refer to the Service Magazine dated February 3, 1997 " Proper Packaging of Transmission Seals Will Prevent Swelling" for proper installation techniques.
