Problem:
Machines built since August 1998 may log the shift lever diagnostic code CID 668 FMI 02 "Shift Lever Input Invalid" in the transmission ECM. The code is displayed as active for a short duration while the shift lever is moved. The mechanic will most likely observe the fault while viewing the ECM's "Logged Diagnostics". The fault is being logged even though there is not a problem with either the 161-1343 Transmission Control Group (shifter), or the transmission ECM. Operator perception of shift hesitation may coincide with the occurrence of the diagnostic code. Replacement of the electronic components does not correct the problem.
Solution:
A transmission ECM software fix has been identified and is currently being validated. News of the solution will be announced in a future Service Magazine article when it becomes available. It is recommended that thorough system troubleshooting be performed, as written in above referenced Service Manual prior to replacement of the shifter or the transmission ECM.
