  1. Do not lubricate the sealing lip of seal (10). Install ring assembly (11). Use Tooling (B) to install seal (10).

  2. Install shaft (7) with thrust washer (9) into water pump (3). Install bolts (8).

  3. Turn over water pump (3). Use water or Tooling (C) to aid assembly. Use a press and Tooling (D) to install a new seal assembly (12) over shaft (7) and into housing (3). Ensure that the outer shell of the seal is fully seated in the housing.

    ------ WARNING! ------

    Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury.

    To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.


  4. Lubricate shaft (7) with clean engine oil. Use Tooling (B) and a suitable press to install impeller (5) onto shaft (7). Install impeller (5) until impeller (5) is flush to ± 0.15 mm (0.006 inch) with shaft (7).

    Note: Check the O-ring seal for wear or for damage. If necessary, replace the O-ring seal.

  5. Install O-ring seal (4) onto cover (2).

  6. Install cover (2) onto water pump (3). Install nuts (1).

End By:

  1. Install the auxiliary water pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Auxiliary Water Pump - Install".
