Turbocharger - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the exhaust elbow.

  1. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Coolant - Change" for the proper draining and filling procedures.

  1. Disconnect clamp assembly (2) and remove diffuser (1) from the turbocharger.

  1. Disconnect tube assemblies (3) and (4) .

  1. Disconnect hose assemblies (5) and (7) .

  1. Disconnect tube assembly (6) .

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to turbocharger (8). The weight of turbocharger (8) is approximately 26 kg (57 lb).

  1. Remove nuts (9) and turbocharger (8). Discard the gasket and nuts (9) .

  1. If needed, carefully remove clamp assemblies (2) and (10). Discard the clamp assemblies.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install turbocharger (8) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Put clean engine oil in the oil inlet of the turbocharger after assembly or before installation. This action will provide lubrication during start-up and during storage.

    1. Tighten new clamp assemblies (10) to a torque of 13.6 ± 1.2 N·m (120 ± 11 lb in).

    1. Tighten new clamp assemblies (2) to a torque of 12 ± 4 N·m (106 ± 35 lb in).

    1. Apply Tooling (A) to the threads of new nuts (9) prior to installation. Tighten nuts (9) to a torque of 70 ± 5 N·m (52 ± 4 lb ft).
