Flame detection temperature sensors

(1) Former sensor

(2) New sensor

Sensors 334-1387 Temperature Sensor and 334-1388 Temperature Sensor are replacements for sensors 288-6820 Temperature Sensor and 313-1449 Temperature Sensor . The new sensors (2) are slightly shorter than the former sensors (1). The new sensors also have a different profile near the tip.

Review the following information before you install the 334-1387 Temperature Sensor or the 334-1388 Temperature Sensor .

Engine Software

The engine software must have a personality module release date of at least November 08 in order for the sensors to work correctly. Failure to update the engine software may cause diagnostic codes or loss of combustion.

Indications on the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET)

The shorter length of the sensor moves the sensor out of the flame by a small amount. This may cause the Cat ET to indicate a temperature of the flame that is up to 200° C (400° F) lower than 288-6820 Temperature Sensor and 313-1449 Temperature Sensor . The temperature reading of the flame may be below 870° C (1600° F). The temperature of the flame is normal for the new sensors. Do not troubleshoot the engine in order to attempt to increase the lower temperature of the flame.
