Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

    Note: Identify the orientation of the flywheel ring gear on the flywheel for the correct positioning when the new flywheel ring gear is installed.

  1. Raise the temperature of flywheel ring gear (3) to 300 °C (572 °F) to install the flywheel ring gear on flywheel (2). Use a soft hammer to seat the flywheel ring gear against the shoulder of the flywheel.

    Note: Do not use a torch to heat the flywheel ring gear.

  2. Allow the flywheel ring gear to cool.

  3. Install Tooling (B) on the crankshaft.

  4. Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to flywheel (2). Install the flywheel on the crankshaft. The weight of flywheel (2) is approximately 48 kg (105 lb).

  5. Apply clean engine oil to the threads of new bolts (1). Install new bolts (1). Remove Tooling (B) and install remaining new bolt (1). Tighten the bolts evenly to a torque of 270 ± 40 N·m (200 ± 30 lb ft).

  6. Remove Tooling (A) from the flywheel.

  7. Check the flywheel runout. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Flywheel - Inspect" for the correct procedure.
