Start By:

  1. Remove the water pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Pump - Remove".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove cover (3) and the gasket from water pump (1).

  2. Remove elbow (2) and the gasket from water pump (1).

  3. Loosen bolt (5) by 6.35 mm (0.250 inch). Tap the bolt with a soft hammer in order to remove impeller (4) from the shaft.

  4. Remove the spring and seal assembly (7) from shaft (6).

  5. Turn over the water pump and remove bolt (8) and the lockwasher.

  6. Remove O-ring seal (9) from the housing.

  7. Use Tooling (A) to remove gear (11) and bearing (10) from the water pump.

  8. Remove bearing (10) from gear (11).

  9. Remove snap ring (12) with Tool (B).

  10. Remove bearing (13) and shaft (6) as a unit.

  11. Use Tooling (A) and a press in order to remove bearing (13) from the shaft.

  12. Remove the ceramic ring and seal (14) from the housing.

  13. Remove lip seal (15) from the housing with Tooling (C).
