Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.
Problem
Illustration 1 | g01953249 |
An increase in piston seizures and scuffing issues are due to procedural deficiencies at the dealership. Inspections reveal that the cylinder packs that contain the 197-9322 Cylinder Block Liner are failing due to damage to the liner seals (1) of the liner. The liner seals are being rolled and the liner seals are being flattened against the bore of the cylinder liner in the block. The flattened area prevents sufficient cooling of the piston and the liner. This condition leads to the tempering of the liner and the piston skirt. Refer to Illustration 1.

The location of the damaged liner seal (1) is easily identified by the darkened area (2) on the cylinder liner that is located directly above the damaged liner seal. Refer to Illustration 2. Continued operation could ultimately lead to a catastrophic failure.
Solution
Reman has issued a field watch for the return of all 3400 Reman Cyliner Packs. Reman will inspect the returns carefully in order to determine the cause of failure. All inspected cylinder packs that display the root cause that is explained above will be considered to be the result of procedural deficiencies. The warranty claim will not be approved for this reason. In order to minimize the risk of improper installation, please ensure that Special Instruction, REHS0273, "Installation Instructions For The 160-9874 Gasket Kit " is closely followed.
