Tip the blade backward until the skid shoe is flat on the ground. A channel will be formed by material that is lost from the side of the blade.
Move successive loads in this channel in order to reduce spilling. If the load slows the machine, downshift the transmission and/or raise the blade slightly.
If the blade digs into the ground and the rear of the machine raises, raise the blade in order to maintain an even cut.
Keep the skid shoe flat on the ground in order to prevent the blade from digging into the ground.
Doze a slot that is as wide as the blade. This slot should be deep enough to prevent material from spilling at the sides of the blade. For maximum production, the depth of the slot should be between 1/2 of the height of the blade and 3/4 of the height of the blade. Use this technique when you stockpile material.
Note: A full blade can be controlled more easily than a partially loaded blade when you are doing finish work or when you are levelling an area.
Both standard blades and blades that are specially designed can be used for stockpiling material.
