Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Operate the machine in order to warm the transmission oil.
- Park the machine on level ground. Lower the blade to the ground and apply slight downward pressure.
- Engage the parking brake. Stop the engine.
- Remove the transmission drain plug from the bottom of the transmission case. Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.

- Change the transmission oil filter.

- Clean the transmission magnetic screen.

- Clean the transmission drain plug. Install the transmission drain plug.
- Open the access door on the platform behind the cab.

- Remove the transmission oil filler cap. Fill the transmission with oil through the filler tube.
Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" for the correct type of oil and for the correct amount of oil.

- Clean the transmission oil filler cap. Install the transmission oil filler cap.
- Remove the transmission breather. Wash the breather in a clean, nonflammable solvent. Allow the breathers to dry or use air pressure to dry the breather. Install the breather.
Note: 834B Wheel Tractors (7BR1-596 ) and 836 Landfill Compactors (7FR1-263 ) have a breather vent on the torque converter.

- Start and run the engine at low idle. Apply the service brake.
- Slowly operate the transmission controls in order to circulate the oil.
- Move the transmission control to the NEUTRAL position. Engage the parking brake. Stop the engine. Inspect the entire transmission system for leaks.
- Check the transmission oil level.
