Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS) - Inspect

- Remove the two bolts that hold the access covers on each side of the machine.

- Look for bolts that are loose, damaged, or missing. Replace the damaged bolts and any missing bolts with original equipment parts only.

- Tighten two bolts (1) to a torque of 900 ± 100 N·m (665 ± 75 lb ft). Tighten eight bolts (2) to a torque of 1300 ± 150 N·m (960 ± 110 lb ft).
Repeat this procedure for the other sides of the ROPS.
Note: Apply oil to all ROPS bolt threads before you install the bolt. Failure to apply oil can result in improper bolt torque.
- Drive the machine on a rough surface. If the ROPS mounting supports rattle, replace the ROPS mounting supports.
- Install the access covers.
Note: Do not repair the ROPS by welding reinforcement plates to the ROPS. Consult your Caterpillar dealer for repair of cracks in any welds, in any castings, or in any metal section of the ROPS.
