SUBJECT: PARKING AND SECONDARY BRAKE HOLDING ABILITY TEST
This Technical Information Bulletin provides the correct procedure to test the holding ability of the parking brake.
Make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and clear of obstacles.
Test the parking brake on a dry surface on an incline of approximately 15 degrees.
The test for the parking brake must be carried out with the rated load in the body.
Fasten your seat belt before you test the parking brake.
The machine is equipped with a secondary braking system. If the engine is running, the front service brakes and the parking brake will be applied if the parking and secondary brake control is moved to the ENGAGED position.
Use the following test to determine whether the parking brake is functional. This test is not intended to measure the maximum brake holding effort. The test checks correct operation of the parking brake only.
1.Stop the machine on an incline of approximately 15%.
2.Engage the parking brake. Move the transmission control to the NEUTRAL position.
3.Shut off the engine.
4.Release the service brake.
If the machine moves, apply the service brake immediately. Start the engine. Disengage the parking brake and drive the machine to level ground. Machine movement indicates that the parking brake requires service.
