Pulley Misalignment Can Cause Premature Wear Of The Drive Belt For The Refrigerant Compressor

Usage:

OFF-HIGHWAY TRUCKS797 (5YW) OFF-HIGHWAY TRUCKS

Problem:

Misalignment between the 155-0488 Crankshaft Pulley Group (part of the 157-2823 Auxiliary Drive Group) and the pulley on the refrigerant compressor is causing premature wear of the 157-2830 Belt.

Solution:

Check the position of the 155-0488 Crankshaft Pulley Group (2) on 7N-7057 Stub Shaft (1). See the Illustration 1. The stub shaft extends past the front face of the pulley. Dimension (X) is the distance between the end of the stub shaft and the outside face of the pulley. Dimension (X) should be 19.00 ( 0.05 mm (0.75 ( 0.002 inch). The three bolts (4) should be tightened to a torque of 90 ( 10 N(m (65 ( 5 lb ft). When installing the 157-2830 Belt (5), be sure that the grooves on the belt are properly seated in the grooves on the crankshaft pulley (2) and the grooves on pulley (3) on the refrigerant compressor.

NOTE: The engines in some earlier trucks included a 157-2824 Crankshaft Pulley (7). See Illustration 2. The front face of the 157-2824 Pulley extends past the end of the stub shaft (6). Dimension (Y) is the distance between the end of the stub shaft (6) and the outside face of the 157-2824 Pulley (7). Dimension (Y) should be 1.0 ± 0.5 mm (0.04 ± 0.02 inch).
