Cracking Of The 9N-0720 Elbow In The Engine Air Intake Lines Caterpillar

Cracking Of The 9N-0720 Elbow In The Engine Air Intake Lines

Usage:

COMPACTORS836G (BRL, 7MZ) COMPACTORS

THIS TIB REPLACES TIBU3510 WHICH IS THE ENGINE TIB THAT IS DATED JANUARY 09, 2002, WITH COMPONENT CODE 1071, 1274, 1456. DESTROY THE JANUARY 09 TIB.

Problem:

The 9N-0720 Elbow (1) in the 132-6250 Air Lines Group may experience cracking. This may allow dirt entry into the engine. See the illustration. This cracking may be the result of exposure to exhaust manifold heat and/or excessive vacuum in the engine air inlet system that may cause flexing of the 9N-0720 Elbow. The excessive vacuum may be the result of air filter restriction.

Solution:

The installation of a 9L-6671 Shield Group will reduce the temperatures around the 9N-0720 Elbow. It is important to prevent excessive restriction of the inlet air. Monitor the air cleaner restriction indicator regularly and replace the air cleaner element at the recommended service intervals. If a cracked 9N-0720 Elbow is found, contact your Technical Communicator and the Caterpillar Product Analyst.
