Multi-Functional Switch

Usage:

OFF-HIGHWAY TRUCK69D (9XS1-UP) OFF-HIGHWAY TRUCK

Problem:

High multi-functional switch failures.

Solution:

The multi-functional switch can be replaced with separate components giving improved service life.

1 - 6EL2243 - Kit

NOTE: 6EL2243 Kit is a multi-purpose kit. Use parts as required.

1. Remove the steering wheel.
2. Remove the covers to expose the steering column.
3. Remove the two screws that fasten the multi-functional switch to the retarder. Disconnect, remove and discard the multi-functional switch.
4. Remove the dash panel.

5. Drill a 7/16inch hole in the dash panel for the installation of a 7T-9303 Wiper Switch. Refer to Illustration 1.
6. Install a 7T-9303 Wiper Switch with a 6EL1674 Wiring Harness. Refer to the schematic in Illustration 5.
7. Remove and discard the hazard switch from the overhead console and install a 3E-0109 Rocker Switch Plug.
8. Connect a new 6EL1673 Wiring Harness to the connection where the multi-functional switch was disconnected. Refer to Illustration 5. Route and clip the new wiring harness together with the retarder harness up the steering column. Use a 4K-8864 Clip and bolt in position to the existing tapping block.

9. Modify the floor plate as shown in Illustration 2.

NOTE: Ensure there are no obstructions before you drill through the floor plate.

10. Install the 2H-1855 Dimmer Switch in the modified floor plate. Use the two 4M-5281 Bolts and the two 8T-4205 Washers to secure the switch.

11. Disconnect the wiring harness from the 143-7884 Wiper Delay Module. Remove and discard the 143-7884 Wiper Delay Module. Install the three 186-3736 Sockets in place of the three spade terminals. Assemble the following items: Connect 186-3786 Sockets to 155-2271 4 Pin Plug, Install one 8T-8737 Blanking Pin to the fourth position on the 4 pin plug, Attach the 102-8804 Receptacle to the 4 pin plug. Install four 8T-8737 Blanking Pins to the receptacle. Fasten the receptacle in position using the 116-0118 Clip. Refer to Illustration 3.

12. Install the 6EL1978 Mounting Bracket and Harness Assembly in the position where the multi-function switch was removed using the original mounting screws.
13. Connect the 6EL1977 Harness Assembly to the 173-3064 Turn Signal/Hazard Switch. Mount the 173-3064 Turn Signal Switch on the 6EL1834 Mounting Bracket and fasten in position using the 7Y-7388 Screws.

14. Install the 6EL1976 Harness assembly. Connect all four harness assemblies to the 12 pin cab harness plug. Refer to Illustration 5.
15. Properly secure the wiring harnesses to prevent excessive rubbing and vibration.
16. Reinstall the dash panel.
17. Reinstall the covers removed in Step 2.
18. Reinstall the steering wheel.
