Excess Material Causing Interference Between Hoist Cylinder Rod Eyes And Body Hoist Bracket Caterpillar

Excess Material Causing Interference Between Hoist Cylinder Rod Eyes And Body Hoist Bracket

Usage:

ARTICULATED TRUCKSD250E (5TN) ARTICULATED TRUCKS

Problem:

Hoist cylinder rod eyes on certain trucks, listed below, have an excess amount of material which causes interference with the inside of the upper hoist bracket on the bodies.

Solution:

The following hoist cylinder rod eyes need to have excess material removed by grinding on the following D250E (5TN) Articulated Trucks:

5TN01632-01639,
5TN01645-01647,
5TN01652-01659,
5TN01661-01680,
5TN01682-01698 Articulated Trucks

Refer to SENR8654-01, Disassembly & Assembly Manual, D250E & D300E Articulated Trucks, Page 54; This manual is part of SENR8650 Service Manual.

NOTE: Process one cylinder at a time so there is no need to remove the full cylinder. The lines do not have to be disconnected or the fluid drained.

Lift the body and install the body prop. Then follow Steps 1, 2, and 3 in the referenced Service Manual to free the upper end of the cylinder from the upper hoist bracket.

Grind the excess material as shown in the illustration. The boss needs to be removed and ground to the 65 mm (2.6 in) dimension and a 5 mm (.2 in) by 45 degree chamfer needs to be ground on both sides as shown, blended in and ground over 240 degrees. Install the cylinder rod head into the body prop.
