Pivot On Three-Point Hitch May Fail Caterpillar

Pivot On Three-Point Hitch May Fail

Usage:

AGRICULTURAL TRACTORSCHALLENGER 65D (2ZJ),
CHALLENGER 65E (6GS),
CHALLENGER 75D (5AR),
CHALLENGER 75E (6HS) AGRICULTURAL TRACTORS

Problem:

The 8R-0660 pivots on Caterpillar three-point hitches may not have been properly heat treated. As a result, the pivot may have been incorrectly quenched. This could cause the pivot to crack and fail when the attachment is raised (the top link is loaded) and the tractor is roaded. NOTE:

NOTE: All known pivot failures involve pivots that are stamped with lot code: PKMU.

Solution:

If a pivot is replaced, dye check the new pivot for cracks. Keep in mind that the replacement pivot is also suspect as all defective parts have not yet been identified. Please return all failed parts.
