There have been field reports of difficulty downloading TPMS trucks by using the 127-9797 Cable Assembly (download cable). The 127-9797 Cable Assembly may lockup the TPMS control not allowing the communication between the service tool (laptop computer) and the TPMS control. Once the TPMS control is locked up, changing the cable to the 9X-3075 Cable Assembly will not restore communications, meaning, downloading will not be possible. The first reference article discusses the need to use ONLY the new 9X-3075 Cable Assembly for downloading TPMS trucks.
Solution:
When the TPMS control is locked up and communications are not possible, the system power must be turned off to the TPMS control. Shut down the truck and turn off the main disconnect switch for one minute. This will reset the TPMS control allowing communications to be restored. Once the TPMS control is reset, connect the 9X-3075 or a modified 127-9797 Cable Assemblies (per Service Magazine, March 2, 1998, page 7, Cable Used to Download TPMS May Cause Incomplete Information.) to download TPMS system. Either cable will work to download VIMS trucks but the 9X-3075 Cable Assembly does not have the capability to power the electrical system from the ground level data port of a truck that is shutdown.
The 127-9797 Cable Assembly will allow the VIMS Service Key Switch to power the electrical system to permit a service tool to download the onboard data from the ground level data port.
