Radiator Mounting Bolt Damage{1353}

Usage:

Challenger 65B (7YC),
Challenger 75 (4CJ),
Challenger 65C (2ZJ),
Challenger 75C (4KK) Agricultural Tractors

Tapped holes, for radiator mounting to the frame, were not drilled deep enough during production of some tractors. This is noticeable when the radiator is removed. The mounting bolts will have approximately 6.350 mm (1/4 in) of the thread stripped.

Before reassembling, retap the holes to have dimensions as shown in Illustration 1.

For easier radiator reattachment, fabricate a fixture that incorporates the bolt hole pattern and the width of the frame. Refer to "Fixture Can Be Used To Simplify Challenger Radiator Support Installation" in this issue for width dimensions.

Illustration 1. 8R-8872 Frame Assembly. (A) 11 + 0.15 -0.08 mm; (.433 +.006 -.003 in) Diameter; Drilled 32 mm (1.3 in) Deep; Internal 12.70 mm (.5 in); 2B Thread, 13 Threads/inch; Tapped to 22 mm (.9 in) Deep; 10 Holes (5 each side).
