--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

All 3054 and 3056 engines use a Stanadyne rotary type fuel injection pump. At this time, most Caterpillar dealers do not have the training, tools, or setting information needed to service the Stanadyne fuel systems on 3054 and 3056 engines, beyond removal and installation and minor external fitting changes. It is Caterpillar's intent to make all fuel pump parts serviceable, and publish all disassembly and assembly , fuel setting, and testing information necessary to give Caterpillar dealers full service capability when 3054 and 3056 engine fuel pump work is done. Until this information is available, and Caterpillar dealers receive training to work on the fuel pumps, the following service procedures are recommended if fuel pump work is necessary:

* Remove the pump from the engine using the information provided in the Service Manual. Take the pump to your local authorized Stanadyne service dealer. That dealer should perform the necessary repairs on the pump free of charge (if the pump is under standard warranty*). After repair, install the pump on the engine. Charge removal and installation of the pump plus travel time and mileage for taking the pump to the Stanadyne dealer in the warranty claim.
* If a Caterpillar dealer is charged for service work, done on a Stanadyne pump that is still within the warranty period, by an authorized Stanadyne dealer, claim the amount charged as a miscellaneous charge in the warranty claim submitted to Caterpillar. Within the claim story, please include the Stanadyne dealer's name and address, his reason for denying warranty, and the pump serial number. as stated above, also charge removal and installation of the pump plus travel time and mileage for transporting the pump to the Stanadyne dealer.
* If an authorized Stanadyne fuel pump service dealer is not available in your area, service the faulty fuel pump with a new pump from Caterpillar Parts and return the removed pump to:

CATERPILLAR, INC.
SERVICE CLAIMS ROOM
WAREHOUSE 4, DOCK 5 - 8
PEORIA, IL 61615
ATTN: 3054 AND 3056 SERVICE ENGINEER

Since most fuel pump problems can be resolved by an authorized repair dealer, make every effort to avoid this option.
