Usage:
793 (3SJ),
793B (1HL) Trucks
Description of Change: A new plastic tank (oil saver) is now used in the 8X-0246 Rear Axle Housing Group.
Adaptable To: The new 117-9847 Tank is effective with 793B (1HL195) Truck.
Earlier machines (3SJ1-Up, 1HL1-148) Trucks are equipped with steel oil saver tanks. The new plastic tank can be used to replace a steel tank.
The new tank can be installed into the 793B (1HL149-194) Trucks which are not equipped with oil savers. The illustrations and chart shows the location and parts list to adapt the plate assemblies to existing machines.

Installation Procedure For 793B (1HL149-194) Trucks
Dimensions For Mounting Plates (1, 2, 6) (A) 192.6 ± 3.0 mm (7.58 ± .12 in). (B) 300.0 ± 2.0 mm (11.81 ± .08 in). (C) 192.6 ± 3.0 mm (7.58 ± .12 in). (D) 300.0 ± 2.0 mm (11.81 ± .08 in). (E) 600.0 ± 2.0 mm (23.62 ± .08 in). (F) 600.0 ± 2.0 mm (23.62 ± .08 in). (G) 57.0 ± 2.0 mm (2.24 ± .08 in). (H) 57.0 ± 2.0 mm (2.24 ± .08 in).
1. Clean and grind the area to remove paint where the new plates assemblies will be welded. Use the tank and illustration to locate mounting positions.
2. Locate plate (2) as shown in the illustration and weld across the top of the plate and the frame with a 8.0 mm (.31 in) fillet with 1.5 mm (.06 in) penetration. Do this in two locations.
3. Locate plate (1) on top of plate (2) and against the frame as shown in the illustration. Weld the plate (1) to the frame with a 5.0 mm (.20 in) fillet with 1.5 mm (.06 in) penetration on the outside face. Weld plate (1) to plate (2) with a 8.0 mm (.31 in) fillet with 1.5 mm (.06 in) penetration on the outside face. Do this in two locations.
4. Locate plate (5) as shown in the illustration and weld across the top of the plate and frame with a 8.0 mm (.31 in) fillet with 1.5 mm (.06 in) penetration. Do this in two locations.
5. After the welding procedure is complete, clean and paint new plate assemblies.
6. When installing the oil saver tank (4), tighten the bolts (3) to a torque of 40 ± 10 N·m (30 ± 7 lb ft).
