Transmission And Torque Converter Charging Pump

Usage:

Remove Transmission And Torque Converter Charging Pump

1. Lift the body of the truck and put FT1437 Body Support in position. See INSTALL AND REMOVE BODY SUPPORT on Page 7.

2. Drain the oil from the transmission, brake and hoist hydraulic tank. The capacity of the tank is 44 U.S. gal. (166.5 liter).

3. Remove four bolts (3) and lockwashers that fasten tube (2) to transmission charging pump (1).

4. Loosen hose clamps (4) and remove tube (2) from the machine.

5. Put identification on hoses (5) and (6) for assembly. Remove the two hoses from the pump.

6. Install lifting strap (7) on the charging pump as shown and fasten the lifting strap to a hoist. Remove two bolts (8) and lockwashers that fasten the pump to the pump drive. Remove the transmission at torque converter charging pump from the pump drive. The weight of the pump is 58 lb. (26 kg).

Install Transmission And Torque Converter Charging Pump

1. Inspect the condition of all O-ring seals and make replacements if necessary.

2. Install lifting strap (3) on transmission and torque converter charging pump (2) as shown and fasten a hoist to the lifting strap. Install O-ring seal (1) on the pump. Put the pump in position on the pump drive. Install the two bolts and lockwashers that fasten the pump to the pump drive. The weight of the transmission and torque pump converter charging pump is 58 lb. (26 kg).

3. Install an O-ring seal (6) on tube (7). Install the tube on the charging pump with four bolts and lockwashers.

5. Put rubber hose (8) in position on tube (7) and tighten clamps (9).

6. Fill the transmission, brake and hoist hydraulic tank. See LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE.

Disassemble Transmission And Torque Converter Charging Pump

start by:

a) remove transmission charging pump

NOTE: For easier assembly, put a mark on the outer surface of each of the body assemblies of the pump to show their original location.

1. Remove four bolts (2) and lockwashers and remove elbow (1) from the pump.

2. Remove two bolts (3) that fasten manifold (4) to the cover.

3. Remove O-ring seal (5) from cover (6). Remove four bolts (7) and remove the cover from the body.

4. Remove O-ring seal (9) and two bearings (8) from cover (6).

5. Remove lip type seal (10) from the cover.

6. Remove two gears (12) from gear assemblies (11) and (13).

7. Remove key (14) from drive gear assembly (11). Remove body (15) from the gear assemblies.

8. Remove O-ring seal (17) and two bearings (16) from body (15).

9. Remove gear assemblies (11) and (13) from manifold (4). Remove body (18) from the manifold.

10. Remove O-ring seal (20) and two bearings (19) from manifold (4).

Assemble Transmission And Torque Converter Charging Pump

NOTE: Clean and put a thin layer of lubricant on all of the inside parts and surfaces of the pump before assembly.

1. Install two bearings (2) into manifold assembly (1) with tool (A) and press. The distance from the top of the bearing to the surface shown after assembly is .063 in. (1.6 mm).

NOTICE

Make sure the joint in both bearings (2) is in the correct location. The location of the joint is an angle of 30° ± 15° from the center line of the two bearing bores in the direction of groove (3).

2. Inspect the condition of all O-ring seals and make replacements if necessary. Install a new O-ring seal (4) on the manifold assembly.

3. Put body (7) in position on manifold (1). Put drive gear (5) and driven gear (6) in position in the manifold.

4. Install two bearings in body assembly (8) with tooling (A). The distance from the top of the bearing to inside surface after assembly is .062 in. (1.57 mm).

NOTICE

Make sure the joint in both bearings is in the correct location. The location of the joint is an angle of 30° ± 15° from the center line of the two bearing bores in the direction of hole (9).

5. Install O-ring seal (10) on body (8) and put the body in position on body (7).

6. Install key (11) in drive gear assembly (5).

7. Install two gears (12) and (13) on the gear assemblies. Make sure the groove in gear (13) is in alignment with key (11) in drive gear (5).

8. Install two bearings (16) in cover assembly (15) with tooling (A) and press. The distance from the top of the bearing to the surface shown after assembly is .062 in. (1.57 mm).

NOTICE

Make sure the joint in both bearings (16) is in the correct location. The location of the joint is an angle of 30° ± 15° from the centerline of the two bearing bores in the direction of groove (14).

9. Install the lip type seal in cover (15) with tooling (A) and press. The seal lip must be toward the outside of the cover. Install the seal until it makes contact with the shoulder in the cover. Put a thin layer of SAE 30 oil on the seal lip.

10. Install O-ring seal (16) on cover (15). Put the cover in position on body (8).

11. Install four bolts (18) and washers than fasten cover (15) to manifold (1). Install O-ring seal (17) on the cover.

12. Install two bolts (19) and washers that fasten manifold (1) to cover (15).

13. Install O-ring seal (20) on elbow (21). Install the elbow on the pump assembly with four bolts and lockwashers.
