Transmission And Torque Converter Scavenge Pump

Usage:

Remove Transmission And Torque Converter Scavenge Pump

1. Drain the oil from the transmission, brake and hoist hydraulic tank. The capacity of the tank is 44 U.S. gal. (166.5 liter).

NOTE: Do not drain the torque converter.

2. Remove scavenge return line (1) and transmission scavenge line (3) from transmission and torque converter scavenge pump (2).

3. Remove hose (4) from the torque converter case. Remove bolt (5) that fastens the hose clamp to the scavenge pump.

4. Remove bolts (6) that fasten the scavenge pump to the torque converter housing. Use two persons to remove the scavenge pump. The weight of the pump is 65 lb. (29 kg).

Install Transmission And Torque Converter Scavenge Pump

1. Clean the contact surfaces of the scavenge pump and the torque converter housing. Install a new gasket between the scavenge pump and torque converter housing.

2. Use two persons to put scavenge pump (1) in position on the torque converter. Be sure the gear on the scavenge pump is engaged with the gear on the torque converter. The weight of the scavenge pump is 65 lb. (29 kg).

3. Install the bolts and lockwashers that fasten the scavenge pump to the torque converter housing. Inspect the condition of O-ring seals on the scavenge return line and transmission scavenge line and make replacements if necessary.

4. Install scavenge return line (3) and transmission scavenge line (2).

5. Connect hose (5) to the torque converter housing. Fasten clamp (4) to the scavenge pump with a bolt and lockwasher.

6. Fill the transmission, brake and hoist hydraulic tank. See LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE for more information.

Disassemble Transmission And Torque Converter Scavenge Pump

start by:

Assemble Transmission And Torque Converter Scavenge Pump

NOTE: Clean all parts thoroughly and put a thin layer of transmission oil on all of these parts before assembly.

1. Install two bearings (2) in manifold (4) with tooling (A). The distance from the top of the bearing to surface (3) after assembly is .062 in. (1.57 mm).

NOTICE

Make sure the joint in both bearings (2) is in the correct location. The location of the joint is an angle of 30° ± 15° from the center line of the two bearing bores in the direction of hole (1) in surface (3).

2. Install an O-ring seal (6) on each of two plugs (5).

3. Install the plugs in manifold assembly (7).

4. Install O-ring seal (9) on the manifold assembly.

5. Install two 3/8" -16 NC guide bolts in the manifold assembly. Install body assembly (8) on the manifold assembly as shown.

6. Install drive gear assembly (10) and driven gear assembly (11) in their correct positions in the manifold assembly.

7. Install O-ring seal (13) on body assembly (12).

8. Install the body assembly (12) on the other body assembly with dowels (14) in a down position.

9. Install key (17) on the drive gear assembly.

10. Install gear (16) on the driven gear assembly.

11. Make sure the groove in gear (15) is in alignment with the key and install the gear on the drive gear assembly.

12. Install two bearings (18) in cover (19) with tooling (A). The distance from the top of the bearing to surface (20) after assembly is .062 in. (1.57 mm).

NOTICE

Make sure the joint in both bearings (18) is in the correct location. The location of the joint is an angle of 30° ± 15° from the center line of the two bearing bores in the direction of hole (21) in surface (20).

13. Install O-ring seal (23) on the bottom side of cover assembly (22).

14. Install the cover assembly on the converter body assembly as shown.

15. Remove the guide bolts and install the four bolts that hold the scavenge pump together.

16. Install key (26) on the drive gear assembly.

17. Make sure groove (24) in gear (25) is in alignment with the key and install the gear on the taper of the drive gear assembly.

18. Install washer (28) and nut (27) on the gear. Tighten the nut to a torque of 100 ± 10 lb.ft. (135.6 ± 13.6 N·m).
