Brake Control Valve (Treadle)

Usage:

Remove & Install Brake Control Valve (Treadle)

1. Release the air pressure from the system.

2. Remove the cover from the front of the cab.


Typical Example

------ WARNING! ------

To prevent possible personal injury, make sure the pressure in the air system is zero before any air lines are disconnected.

--------WARNING!------

3. Put identification marks on hoses (2) for installation purposes. Disconnect all hoses (2) from brake control valve (1).

4. Remove the cotter pin, pin (3) and brake pedal (4).

5. Remove plunger (5).

6. Remove three bolts (6) that hold the brake control valve in position, and remove the brake control valve.

NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the brake control valve.

7. Put brake control valve (1) in position, and install three bolts (6) that hold it.

8. Connect all hoses (2) to brake control valve (1).

9. Put plunger (5) in position on top of the brake control valve.

10. Put brake pedal (4) in position, and install pin (3) and the cotter pin that holds it.

11. Install the cover on the front of the cab.

Disassemble Brake Control Valve (Treadle)

Start By:

a. remove brake control valve (treadle)

------ WARNING! ------

Piston assembly (2) is under spring pressure.

--------WARNING!------

1. Push down on piston assembly (2), and bend the locks out on retainer (1). Slowly remove the piston assembly and spring from the valve.

2. Remove O-ring seal (4) from piston (3).

3. Remove bolt (7), seat (6) and spring (rubber) (5) from the piston.

4. Use tool (A) to remove snap ring (8). Remove the valve assembly from the valve body.

5. Remove screw (9), the washer and diaphragm (10) from the valve assembly.

6. Remove spring (11) that holds the valve together from under diaphragm (10).

7. Remove spring (13), valve (16) and retainer (15).

8. Remove O-ring seals (12) and (14).

Assemble Brake Control Valve (Treadle)

1. Inspect the O-ring seals for damage, and make replacements if needed. Make sure the parts are clean and free of foreign materials.

2. Install the O-ring seal on retainer (8). Install retainer (8) on valve (9) with the flat side toward spring (6).

3. Install O-ring seal (5) on seat (4).

4. Install spring (6) on valve (9).

5. Push valve (9) and spring (6) on seat (4) until spring (3) can be installed to hold the valve and seat together.

6. Install diaphragm (2), the washer and screw (1) on seat (4).

7. Install the valve assembly in valve body (10). Install the snap ring that holds the valve in place with tool (A).

8. Install O-ring seal (12) on piston (11).

9. Install spring (rubber) (13) on piston (11) with the outside chamfer toward seat (14).

10. Install seat (14) and the washer and bolt (15) on piston (11).

11. Install the spring and piston assembly in the valve body.

12. Put retainer (16) in position on the piston assembly. Push the piston assembly into valve body (10). Bend the locks on retainer (16) that holds the piston assembly in place.

End By:

a. install brake control valve (treadle)
