Parking Brake Control (Release) Valve

Usage:

Remove & Install Parking Brake Control (Release) Valve

1. Raise the truck body, and install the body retaining cable.

2. Release the air pressure in the system.

------ WARNING! ------

To prevent possible personal injury, make sure all pressure in the air system is zero before any air lines are disconnected.

--------WARNING!------

NOTE: Put identification marks on all hoses for correct assembly at installation.

3. Disconnect the hoses from brake control valve (1).

4. Disconnect the hoses from manifolds (2) and (3).

5. Remove four bolts (4), brake control valve (1) and manifolds (2) and (3) from the machine as a unit.

6. Remove manifolds (2) and (3) from brake control valve (1).

NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the brake control valve.

7. Install manifolds (2) and (3) onto brake control valve (1) in their original positions.

8. Put brake control valve (1) in position on the machine as shown. Install four bolts (4) that hold the brake control valve in position.

9. Connect all hoses to brake control valve (1), manifold (2) and manifold (3).

10. Remove (bleed) the air from the brake system. Refer to the Testing & Adjusting Manual for further information.

11. Remove the body retaining cable, and lower the truck body.

Disassemble & Assemble Parking Brake Control (Release) Valve

Start By:

a. remove brake control valve

1. Remove two bolts (1) and cylinder assembly (2) from the valve body.

2. Remove O-ring seal (4) and retaining ring (3) from cylinder assembly (2).

3. Remove head seal assembly (5) and piston (7).

4. Remove seal (6) from the bore of head seal assembly (5).

5. Remove plug (8), spring (10) and stem (11) from valve body. Remove O-ring (9) from the plug.

6. Remove relief valve (12) and (13) from the valve body.

7. Remove O-ring seals (14) from relief valve (12).

8. Remove O-ring seals (15) from relief valve (13).

NOTE: The following steps are for assembly of the brake control valve.


NOTICE

Be sure all parts are thoroughly clean and free of dirt and debris. Remove any scratches or burrs from components with polishing paper or an oil stone. If any component parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. Put clean oil hydraulic oil on the components as they are being installed. Be sure to install all parts in the correct position in their original locations.


9. Check the condition of all seals. O-ring seals and lip type seals in the brake control valve. Replace with new ones if needed.

10. Put the O-rings seals on relief valves (12) and (13). Install the valves in the valve body.

11. Put stem (11) in position in the valve body and install spring (10).

12. Put O-ring seal (9) in position on plug (8), and install the plug in the valve body.

13. Install piston (7) into cylinder assembly (2). Install lip-type seal (6) in head seal assembly (5). Install seal (6) with the lip as shown. Put clean oil on the lip of the seal.

14. Put retaining ring (3) in position in head seal assembly (5). Install O-ring seal (4) on the end of cylinder assembly (2).

15. Install cylinder assembly (2) on the end of stem (11).

16. Put cylinder assembly (2) in position on the valve body and install bolts (1) that hold it.
