Air Reservoir (Starting And Service)

Usage:

Remove & Install Air Reservoir (Starting And Service)

------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Drain the coolant only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap from the radiator slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to avoid personal injury.

--------WARNING!------

1. Drain enough coolant from the cooling system to drain radiator expansion tank (1).

2. Mark for identification and disconnect all hoses to tank (1).

3. Attach a hoist to tank (1).

4. Remove the mounting straps and tank (1).

5. Release the pressure in the air reservoir.

Typical Example.

------ WARNING! ------

To prevent possible personal injury, make sure the pressure in the air system is zero before any air lines are disconnected.

--------WARNING!------

6. Disconnect two hose assemblies (2) from the air reservoir.

7. Disconnect hose assemblies (4) and (7) from air reservoir (3).

8. Disconnect hose assembly (6) from the valve assembly.

9. Fasten a hoist to air reservoir (3). Remove the nuts, washers and U-bolts (5), and remove reservoir (3). The weight of the air reservoir is 157 kg (346 lb).

NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the air reservoir.

10. Fasten a hoist to air reservoir (3). Put the air reservoir in position on the platform, and install two U-bolts (5) and the washers and nuts that hold it in place.

11. Connect hose assembly (6) from the air reservoir to the valve assembly.

12. Connect hose assembly (7) from the brake relay valve to air reservoir (3).

13. Connect hose assembly (4) from the air starter relay to the air reservoir.

14. Connect two hose assemblies (1).

15. Replace expansion tank (1). Install the mounting straps to hold the tank in place.

16. Connect all hose assemblies to the tank in their original locations.

17. Refill the cooling system with coolant to the proper level. See the Operation & Maintenance Manual.
