NOTE: The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.
NOTE: This Program must be administered as soon as possible. When reporting the repair, use "PI3880" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI3880" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
NOTE: This Program is not required if PS8970 "High Pitch Fan" is administered.

- 836 Compactors are equipped with a suction fan. The combination of the suction fan plus the severe usage demanded by a compactor causes the front bearing to fail in the fan drive.

Parts Needed
Action Required
1. Remove the fan drive from the machine and disassemble.
2. Use the new 1326655 Hub to rebuild the drive using a new 8H9789 Rear Bearing and 5S2106 Seal.
3. Insert a new 1326653 Bearing Spacer, then a double row 1326633 Bearing.
NOTE: Pre-pack both bearings with 1291939 Lubricant - Gold). Do not use any other lubricant.
4. Follow the Service Manual for reassembling the drive.
