When reporting the repair, use "PI3971" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI3971" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

The upper and lower striker bar welds may be missing on certain 816F Compactors used in landfill operations. The striker bar mounting plate must be welded on the top, bottom and both sides of the plate.

Rework Procedure
1. Locate machine on a level surface, engage parking brake, and install Safety lock.
2. Clean the area surrounding the striker bar mounting plate in front of the rear wheels.
3. Check for existence of weld on the top and bottom of the mounting plate.
4. If the welds are missing, remove striker bars, belly guards, and steering cylinder guards.
5. Grind the area where the mounting plate and frame meet down to bare metal.
6. Add additional welds to the top and bottom of the mounting plate as indicated in Illustration 1.
7. Prime and paint weld affected area.
