Product Support Program For Replacing A Cracked 8X4038 Front Wheel On Certain 776C Tractors And 777C Trucks Equipped With 8X6469 Oil Cooled Brakes Caterpillar

NOTE: This Program can only be administered after a failure occurs. The decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS0957" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. Use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

NOTE: This Revised Service Letter replaces the February 16, 1997 Service Letter. Changes have been made to the Problem, Parts Needed, and Action Required.

The existing 8X4038 Front Wheel(s) may crack on certain 776C Tractors and 777C Trucks equipped with 8X6469 Oil Cooled Brakes. The cracks begin behind the duo-cone seal retainer, in the radius where the spline meets the vertical shoulder at 90 degrees.

Action Required

If a crack is observed in the outside of the existing 8X4038 Wheel, or oil is observed leaking through the outside of the wheel, replace the wheel in accordance with existing service manual procedures.
