- (1-Rework Procedure)
Rework Procedure
1. Remove bumper assembly.
2. Remove cracks and existing weld fillets by grinding or using an air arc process. Leave a 20 mm (.79") long weld on (top) side A, and (bottom) side B of the bumper tube, to hold the end plates in position. See Illustration 1.
3. Grind an 8 mm (.351") x 45degree bevel on the tube, on sides C and D, as shown in view A-A.
4. Weld a 25.4 mm (1") tac weld on sides C and D to hold the end plates in position.
5. Grind or air arc out the 20 mm (.934") long welds on sides A and B, left in from step 2.
6. Tac weld tube to end plates on sides A and B.
7. Weld a root pass on sides A, B, and C. Then run multiple weld passes alternating sides until a 10 mm (.394") fillet weld is achieved on all sides. Take care to prevent heat distortion of end plates.
8. Reinstall bumper assembly, shimming as required, to prevent distortion of the end plates when welding side D.
9. Run a root weld on side D, then finish welding with multiple passes until a 10 mm (.394") weld is achieved.
