NOTE: This Program can be administered either before or after a failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS8902" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

An improved hydraulic tank guard and striker bar mount are available to be installed on certain 834B and 836 Compactors. The new 836 Compactor has improved hydraulic tank guarding and striker bar mounting as of January, 1997. This kit provides the Parts Needed to update the current field population to this new enhances design.

Rework Procedure
1. Remove the platform from above the hydraulic tank assembly. Save all hardware.
2. Remove the ladder from the current guarding and save.
3. Remove all existing guarding from the hydraulic tank, sides and bottom.
4. Remove existing front guard plate.
5. Remove hydraulic tank. Save top bracket and mounting hardware.
6. Remove the existing striker bar.
7. Remove the existing striker bar mounting pad and hydraulic tank mounting plate. Grind the frame smooth.
8. Weld on the new 1387885 Plate / hydraulic tank mounting pad, (12 mm fillet weld - low hydrogen process, all around). See Illustration 1 and Illustration 3, View B-B for location dimensions.
9. Mount new 1387878 Striker Bar, new 7X0406 Bolt and 8T5361 Washer (tighten to 900 N·m)
10. Remount the existing hydraulic tank and top bracket. Mount the new 1388066 Lower Bracket using new 8T4994 Washer, 8T8924 Bolt (tighten to 370 N·m), 7X0515 Washer, 7X0350 Bolt (tighten to 215 N·m), 6K9800 Spacer and 7X0448 Nut (tighten to 215 N·m).
11. Remove oil cooler return tube by the hydraulic tank and replace with new 1409415 Tube Assembly and new 1P3703 Seal.
12. Weld 1416001 Tapped Bar to platform (3 mm fillet weld - low hydrogen process, both sides) as shown in Illustration 1.
13. Mount platform to top of hydraulic tank using existing hardware.
14. Loosely assemble new 1387876 Lower Wheel Side Guard Plate Assembly to striker and hydraulic tank using new 7X0515 Washer, 8T6871 Bolt, 7X0589 Washer and 7X0310 Bolt.
15. Loosely assembly new 1387868 Upper Wheel Side Guard Plate Assembly to lower wheel side guard and hydraulic tank using new 5P1076 Washer, 8T8919 Bolt, 7X0589 Washer and 7X0310 Bolt.
16. Loosely assemble new 1387871 Strap to new guard plate and existing block on frame using new 5P1076 Washer, 5C6565 and 8T8919 Bolts.
17. Loosely assemble new 1416002 Plate Assembly to new 1416001 Tapped Bar welded to platform. Using new 8T4223 Washer and 8T8917 Bolt, clamp top edge of new 1387868 Upper Plate Assembly to angled surface of platform.
18. Mount 1387875 Plate Assembly by setting on striker bar hooks, sliding towards striker and installing 1417954 Plate using new 8T4223 Washer and 5P2566 Bolt (tighten to 105 N·m).
19. Loosely assemble new wrap around guard 1387870 using new 7X0589 Washer, 8T9380 Bolt, 5P1076 Washer and 5P2566 Bolt.
20. Loosely assemble new 1387874 Front Guard Plate Assembly to wrap around guard using new 5P1076 Washer and 5P2566 Bolt.
21. Rotate bottom guard up and loosely fasten to angles on bottom of other guards with new 7X0515 Washer and 8T9393 Bolt.
22. Tighten all bolts on loosely mounted guarding. Alternate tightening to adjust fit up as necessary. See Torque Chart below.
23. Weld 1387883 Tapped Bar to butterfly plate (8 mm fillet weld - low hydrogen process, both sides) using new 1387873 Front Guard Plate Assembly as a locating guide.
24. Mount new 1387873 Front Guard Plate Assembly using new 5P1076 Washer, 5P2566 and 8C4436 Bolts (tighten both to 105 N·m).
25. Mount existing ladder. Tighten bolts to 105 N·m.
