Description of Change: A new lifting eye assembly (see Illustration 1) is available for these engines. The new lifting eye assembly includes a new stronger bracket assembly (see Illustration 2). The new bracket assembly has a thicker horizontal mounting flange for increased strength. Also, the new bracket assembly positions the lifting eye connection point higher. This gives the lifting eye greater freedom to rotate. Because of the thicker horizontal mounting flange on the new bracket assembly, longer bracket mounting bolts (2.5 inches verses 2.0 inches) are used to insure proper thread engagement.

5P-8291 Bolt (6).

Adaptable To: The new 150-7972 Lifting Eye Assembly is a direct replacement for the former 8N-8016 Lifting Eye Assembly. The former lifting eye assembly is canceled. The Chart A and the Illustrations 1 and 2 identify the components of the new 150-7972 Lifting Eye Assembly. Chart B identifies the components of the former 8N-8016 Lifting Eye Assembly.

NOTE: For improved serviceability and to help insure the correct mounting hardware is used, each 155-0726 Bracket Assembly includes two brackets, two 6V-9995 Bolts (4), two 5P-8291 Bolts (6), and four 5P-8248 Washers (5). Other than the bolts and washers, the individual pieces of the 155-0726 Bracket Assembly are not serviced separately.

------ WARNING! ------

The lifting eye assembly can fail if incorrectly installed. A lifting eye assembly failure can allow the engine to shift or fall. This can result in possible personal injury or death. When installing the lifting eye assembly, be sure to install the correct bolts in the correct locations.

-------WARNING!-------

It is important that the bolts (4) and (6) be installed at the locations shown in Illustration 2. Bolt (4) is 1/2inch longer than bolt (6) because the longer bolt is required to provide proper thread engagement when installed through the thicker bracket mounting flange (Y).

NOTE: The former 121-5492 or 8N-8017 Lifting Eye Brackets MUST be replaced in pairs. The bore in the new bracket for the lifting eye dowel has been relocated when compared to the location of the bore in the former lifting eye brackets. This is why the new 155-0726 Bracket Assembly includes two new brackets. One new 155-0726 Bracket Assembly replaces two former 8N-8017 or 121-5492 Lifting Eye Brackets.

Those wanting to replace the former 121-5492 or 8N-8017 Lifting Eye Brackets with the new 155-0726 Bracket Assembly, but reuse their 7N-2326 Lifting Eye should use the following procedure.

One 155-0726 Bracket Assembly and two 7N-2328 Dowels are required for this procedure.

1. Remove the 8N-8016 Lifting Eye Assembly from the engine.

2. Use a hydraulic press to press the dowels out of the former lifting eye brackets. Retain the 7N-2326 Lifting Eye, but DO NOT retain the dowels or the former lifting eye brackets.

3. Put the lifting eye in position in one of the new brackets. Use a hydraulic press to press a NEW 7N-2328 Dowel through the bore in the new bracket and lifting eye. Press the new dowel into the new bracket until the dowel is centered in the bracket.

4. Repeat Step 3 for the remaining new bracket and dowel.

5. Use the bolts and washers supplied with the 155-0726 Bracket Assembly to install the lifting eye assembly on the engine. The 5P-8291 Bolts (2 inches long) must be installed in the horizontal position, while the 6V-9995 Bolts (2.5 inches long) must be installed in the vertical position. See Illustration 2.
